A message from the Director of Auxiliary Programs (June 15, 2020)
In recent weeks we have weighed various opening scenarios while we waited for the state to release guidelines for summer programs: how do we balance the very real need for children to have meaningful in-person social experiences with the very real health concerns that come with opening? After careful deliberations we have made the difficult decision to cancel our live camp for this summer in order to safeguard the health of our students and staff. We are now concentrating on creating virtual summer content and preparing to open school in the fall.
- NEW ONLINE SUMMER PROGRAM CLASSES: we’ll be offering these virtual classes and more this summer: Make a Podcast, STEM Engineering w/ Corey Hadden, Dungeons & Dragons, Music Programs w/ The Prindle School of Music, Youth Empowerment: How To Be Anti-Racist w/ Tiffany Jewell
- Many of the Elementary and Middle School programs scheduled from June 22 to August 14th will be offered online. If your in-person class goes online you’re automatically registered for it, many of which will be offered at the reduced cost. Our revised schedule with these classes and new offerings will be released shortly on our online registration page.
- All Toddler and Children’s House (pre-K) programs are cancelled for the summer and families will be issued full refunds for these programs.
- If you wish to opt out of virtual programming you will be issued a full rebate that can be taken as a refund or credit for next year.
- If you have already submitted a refund request you will be issued a 100% reimbursement.
- All camp refunds will be issued by check.
Thank you all for being patient with us as we consider the next safe and sensible steps for our Summer Program 2020 as related to the COVID-19 outbreak. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We hope your child will join our virtual program this summer and we hope to see you in person for Summer 2021!
SUMMER PROGRAMS at the Montessori School of Northampton offer a wide range of enriching and fun sessions for children. Our summer sessions are inspired by the Montessori approach. Toddler programming helps engage children’s innate “do it myself” drive, with opportunities to hone physical and practical skills, learn social lessons and name their feelings while noticing the feelings of others. The preschool curriculum includes theme based programming, focused art classes, an emphasis on practical life skills and extended outdoor exploration. Aspects of the Montessori academic experience from which elementary and middle school students will benefit include independent work choices, respect and care for social relationships and advanced practical life skills.
Since 1976 the Montessori School of Northampton has offered exciting and engaging programs for children in the tradition of Italian educator Maria Montessori. The school is located in a peaceful, residential area convenient to downtown Northampton, Route 9 and I-91. Families often commute and carpool from surrounding towns such as Hatfield, Amherst, Williamsburg, Easthampton, Hadley, and the hilltowns.
Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Confirmation of attendance will be sent to you within ten days by email as space and match is determined. Once a program is full, we will automatically place additional applicants on a waiting list in the order in which they are received. In this case, parents will be notified via email. Families on the waiting list will be notified as soon as an opening occurs and tuition for the program will be due at that time.
There are 2 options for payment. Please choose one and indicate it on the registration form.
FULL PAYMENT: Submit full payment with registration.
PAYMENT PLAN: Pay 1/3 at checkout. Balance will be calculated to be paid in installments by one week before the start of your program.
The Montessori School of Northampton is accredited by the Association of Independent School of New England (AISNE) and the American Montessori Society (AMS).
