Children’s House

(Preschool/Kindergarten)

June 25-August 17        Ages 2.9-6

 

Session I (June 25 – July 6):     Storybook Adventures      

Session II (July 9-20):     Move & Groove

Session III (July 23-August 3):      Rocks, Rivers & Dinosaurs 
            
Session IV (August 6-17):     At The Zoo

Lunch Club (8:30-12:30): $375 per session. Children bring bag lunch. 

Full Day (8:30-3:00): $450 per session. Children bring bag lunch.

Your children will join our skilled and inspired staff for fun in the sun, shade and water. Each two-week session features a field trip and a resident artist in music, crafts, nature, movement or theater who works with the children on theme-related projects.

 

Our program has a low child-to-teacher ratio so our staff can give lots of individualized attention and create relaxed summer pace for the children. The program features fun outdoor play in a park-like setting with a garden, nature exploration areas, wading pools, water play (PM only), and a large children’s playground. We offer indoor fun in one of the best-equipped, most beautiful classroom environments in the Pioneer Valley.


Visual Arts:    Ages 6-9

June 25 – 29    8:30-3:00

The Visual Arts program is a multi-media extravaganza taught by our resident art teacher Barbara Neulinger. Join us for a “global art adventure” that will explore different art forms from around the world. From ancient mosaics to Indonesian batik, young artists will sample several different techniques and media from traditional arts from east to west. Tuition: $275


Barbara Neulinger received her MFA in painting from Indiana University. She’s been the art teacher at the Montessori School of Northampton since 2001. Barbara was the recipient of a grant from the Northampton Arts Council that led to her exhibit at the A.P.E. Gallery in November 2009.

 

Culinary Creations: Asia   Ages 6-9

July 2-6    8:30-3:00

We invite your children to attend a fun week at the M.S.N. Culinary Institute! Children will learn about the foods and cooking styles from different countries in Asia, including Japan, India, China and Thailand. Attendees will learn how to roll their own sushi, cook with various Asian spices, and learn about the history and origins of foods from these regions. Tuition: $220

 

Daytrippers   Ages 6-9
July 9 – 13    8:30–3:00


Can’t take your kids to all the cool places in Western Mass that you’d like to? Let us do if for you! We have our very own mini-bus and we’ll travels to places like MASS MoCA, the Connecticut Science Museum in Hartford, the Springfield Museums and other exciting destinations. Spaces are limited so sign up early! Tuition: $275

 

Pre-Engineering with LEGO®/ Junior Board Gamers

July 16-20. A full day of fun for ages 6-9      
8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

 

Junior Board Gamers (AM Program): We’ll introduce the children to a new breed of board and role-playing games that are easy to learn, promote critical thinking, and are a lot of fun. The session will culminate with a group activity where every child will design and create part of a complete board game developed by the whole group. We’ll provide a printable PDF of this unique game to every participant. No previous board game experience is needed.

 

Pre-Engineering with LEGO (PM Program): Students will build cities, bridges, and motorized cars/planes and explore the many creative possibilities of engineering with the LEGO® system. With access to over 100,000 pieces of LEGO, your child will have the opportunity to build what they have only dreamed of, with the support of an experienced Play-Well Engineering instructor to guide them. Tuition $300

 

Engineering FUNdamentals with LEGO/Apprentice Board Gamers

July 16-20. A full day of fun for ages 9-12        
8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

 

Engineering FUNdamentals with LEGO (AM Program): Students take on real-life engineering challenges that explore concepts in physics, architecture, mechanical and structural engineering with over 100,000 pieces of LEGO® material. From racecars to Battletracks, this is a hands-on and minds-on camp suitable for LEGO novices to "maniacs." Designed by engineers, the curriculum challenges both new and returning students to reach the next level of engineering comprehension, all while having fun.

 

Apprentice Board Gamers: The next step in our board gaming curriculum, in this session our Game Gurus will suggest strategies, help with rules and introduce games that go beyond a simple roll of the dice. Just as in Junior Board Gamers, this session culminates in a group activity where every child designs and creates part of a board game developed by the whole group. We’ll provide a printable PDF of this unique game to every participant. No previous board game experience is needed.  Tuition $300

Play-Well TEKnologies was founded in 1997 and has run LEGO® building system programs for summer camps and after schools all across the country. Through the use of fun-filled Lego engineering and architectural projects Play-Well helps children learn problem-solving skills and self reliance while fostering creative expression.

 

 

Digital Photography    Ages 6-9

July 25-29     8:30-3:00

Discover how to use and have fun with a digital camera! You’ll learn how to hold your camera steady and take a wide variety of photo styles (portraits, landscape) while focusing on composition, light, and texture. Students will take photos at unique angles, seeking the perfect lighting and capturing a simple background. Participants will also learn how to process photos using a computer. At the end of the week, students will create a photo album to display their work. Please note: Students must provide their own digital camera. Tuition: $275

 

BASEBALL ADVENTURES

For children ages 9-12 (completion of 4th grade required

Session I: July 30 – August 3

This session will feature a visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame and a day trip to see the New York Yankees @ Yankee Stadium.

Session II: August 6-10

Featuring day trips to minor league baseball games like the Pawtucket Red Sox and Tri City Valley Cats, as well as a trip to see the Boston Red Sox @ Fenway Park.

 

When the kids aren’t on the road they’ll create their own fantasy baseball teams, learn about baseball history and much more. There is limited space so sign up today! Tuition: $340 per session.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • On certain days, children may be required to arrive before 8:30 AM, depending on the trip planned that day.

  • All baseball games are day games with the children returning between 3:00-6:00 PM.

  • Children bring bag lunch. AM and PM snacks are provided.

 

Chris Scanlon has been the director of the Montessori School of Northampton’s Summer Programs since 2001. In the summer of 2012 he will begin his 14th year at MSN. Chris will be leading the Baseball Adventures program, combining his knowledge and love of the game with his experience as a teacher and program leader.

 

 

Registration Information:

EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT: Pay in full by April 15 and receive a 10% discount.

DEFFERED PAYMENT PLAN: Pay half by April 16 and pay remainder by May 16.

 

Refund Policy

  • A 75 percent refund will be given to those withdrawing prior to June 1, 2012.

  • A 50 percent refund will be given to those withdrawing after June 1, 2012 and before summer program begins.

  • No refunds will be given after summer program begins on June 25, 2012

 

  • All refund requests must be submitted in writing to the Business Office by the dates listed on the refund policy.

 

$25 application fee is non-refundable
